Part Time:
EDUCATION FACILITATOR, DESTINATION INDIANA
TEMPORARY, PART-TIME,
LATE AUGUST 2008 THROUGH JANUARY 3, 2009
Internships:
The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) is made up of four divisions: Administration,
Marketing and Public Relations, Development and Membership; and Collections,
Conservation, Public Programs, and Press. Each division may be able to
provide learning and working experiences for undergraduate and graduate
students in the form of internships.
Graduate interns
Graduate interns (students currently enrolled in a graduate program) are
typically paid a stipend that is based on the length of the internship
plus travel expenses, which are based on the distance the intern travels
to Indianapolis. IHS will consider students from a variety of disciplines
if the completed course work relates to internship duties.
Undergraduate
interns
Undergraduate interns (defined as students currently enrolled in an undergraduate
program or who have received a bachelor’s degree in the last 12
months, but who have not yet enrolled in a graduate degree program) are
unpaid. IHS will consider students from a variety of disciplines if the
completed course work relates to internship duties.
Housing and
transportation
Both graduate and undergraduate interns are responsible for their own
housing and transportation.
How to apply
From time to time, IHS seeks applications for internship offerings via postings
at colleges and universities, on listservs and on its Web site (see below).
If no internships are posted at this time, students and recent graduates
are welcome to contact IHS about the possibility of an internship by providing
the following:
- A cover letter
that addresses the following:
- Why are you
interested in an internship at the Indiana Historical Society?
- What would
you like to gain from your internship with us?
- What area(s)
interest you the most?
- What are your
school’s requirements?
- Resume.
- Names, addresses,
and telephone numbers of two references
- Current grade
transcript copy.
Please send these four
items to:

Vice President, Human Resources
Indiana Historical Society

Upon receipt of these materials, Ms. Brown will review the materials and
pass the information along to the appropriate division for review to see
if it’s possible to arrange an internship. Please note that this
may not always be possible. If this is a possibility, Ms. Brown will contact
the intern candidate and arrange for an interview. IHS reserves the right
to decline internship candidates. The staff member responsible for the
intern’s supervision will be responsible for completing any paperwork
required by the intern’s school.
If applying for a posted internship, please follow the instructions for
applications as noted on the internship posting.
