Letter from John Herbst
President and CEO
Indiana Historical Society

Thank you for visiting the Indiana Historical Society website. Since 1830, the IHS has been Indiana's Storyteller™: Connecting People to the Past” by collecting, preserving, interpreting and disseminating Indiana history to a wide variety of audiences through historical resources, statewide educational programs, publications and activities.

The IHS website will guide you to the resources and services we provide, introducing you to the many ways we connect people to their heritage. It is our belief that knowledge of the past encourages responsible citizenship, educates our youth, and inspires people to discover, preserve and value the family, community and state history which surrounds all of us.

As you use the website my hope is that, in addition to finding what you are looking for, you will utilize more of the Indiana Historical Society's resources which you previously may not have been aware that we offer. Enjoy your journey of discovery into Indiana's history!
